Diquat: Quick Burndown of Weeds in Landscape Beds

Diquat: Quick Burndown of Weeds in Landscape Beds

Samuel Barrick

Using Roundup, but not pleased with the delayed results? Want something to kill unwanted weeds in your ornamental beds quickly? If you answered Yes, you are in luck. The answer is Diquat.

Diquat shows visible results in as little as 24-48 hours, giving you peace of mind that your application is working properly, and you don’t need to spray it again.

While Diquat is a non-selective, it will only burndown the top growth of weeds, this means that unless it is added with other products weeds will return from root tissue within a few weeks. Diquat is recommended to be added with Roundup or Finale when spraying in landscape beds.

Active Ingredient

As the name suggests, Diquat Dibromide is the active ingredient in Diquat Herbicide. When handling or applying this product be sure to properly read the label, wear correct PPE, and understand the risk involved.

Where to Use

Diquat can be applied to landscape beds or used for control of aquatic weeds in ponds. It is safe to use around commercial greenhouses and nurseries, ornamental seed crops, landscape, industrial, recreational, commercial, residential, and public areas.

It can be used over-the-top of dormant turfgrasses like bermudagrass and zoysiagrass for control of winter weeds.

Diquat is also labeled for Aquatic Use, please refer to the label for more information.

Application Rates

When using Diquat for landscape bed applications, use 0.75 fl oz per gallon of water in combination with a nonionic surfactant. The same rate can be used when applying with another herbicide that translocates like Roundup.
